Privacy notice
Short version: this website doesn't track you, the game keeps your data on your own device, and the two forms only store what you type after you agree. The details are below.
The operator's legal name, address and privacy contact are not filled in yet (site/config.js). Complete them, name your form service and host, and have this notice reviewed before collecting any personal information.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of personal information collected through this website (the "operator", "we") is:
- Operator: Alusoft · Alu Software Pty Ltd (ABN 21 654 141 296), Australia
- Address:
- Privacy contact:
- Privacy officer (Korea: 개인정보 보호책임자): TODO: name, title and contact
2. This website
The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Its fonts, images and videos are served from the same place as the pages, so loading it contacts no third party. Your language choice is remembered in your browser's local storage, on your device only.
Like any website, the server that hosts it may record standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for security and to keep the service running.
TODO: name the hosting provider and how long its logs are kept.
3. The early-access list
What we collect: your email address; optionally a nickname; your preferred language; your country or region; the devices you'll play on and your interests (if you tick them); and a record of your consent (the text you agreed to and when).
Why: to email you news about HOPPA's early access (for example when online play, new cities or new bosses arrive), in your language, and to understand which regions, languages and devices to prioritise. We don't use it for anything else, and we never sell it.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a); Korea's Personal Information Protection Act Art. 15(1)(1); for Australia, collected with your consent and only as reasonably necessary, APP 3). You can withdraw consent at any time; that doesn't affect anything done before.
How to unsubscribe: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to the privacy contact above. We will then delete your details from the list.
How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until the early-access programme ends, whichever comes first.
TODO: name the form / email service that stores the list (a processor acting for us), where it stores data, and the safeguards for any transfer outside your country (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses; for Korea, the transfer details PIPA Art. 28-8 requires).
4. The contact form
If you write to us through the press page, we collect your name, email, company (optional), what you're writing as, and your message, plus your consent record, so we can reply. Legal basis: your consent, and our legitimate interest in answering business enquiries (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). We keep it for as long as the conversation needs, then delete it within 24 months unless we're in an ongoing business relationship.
5. Your HOPPA ID
A HOPPA ID is created and kept only in your browser's local storage on this device: your in-game name, language, region (optional), starting city, look, colour and emoji, and an email address if you choose to add one. It is never sent to us or anyone else: there is no account server yet. You can export it, or delete it with Reset on the HOPPA ID page or by clearing this site's data in your browser.
6. The game
HOPPA is currently a frontend-only preview: there is no game server. Your profile, settings, friends, private messages, voice notes, stall, photos and coins are stored in your browser's local storage on your device and never uploaded. The other people in the cities are simulated.
To show each city's live weather, the game asks the free service Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for that city's forecast using the city's coordinates, never yours. As with any web request, Open-Meteo can see your IP address. If you allow the game to use your location, it is used on your device to label distances and is not uploaded; "Share my distance" is off unless you turn it on.
TODO: update this section before online multiplayer or accounts launch.
7. Children
The early-access list and the contact form are not meant for children. If you are under 16 (under 14 in Korea), please ask a parent or guardian before signing up; we don't knowingly collect personal information from children without that consent, and will delete it if we learn we have.
8. Your rights
- Everyone: ask us what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted; withdraw consent at any time.
- EU, EEA and UK (GDPR): also restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your data protection authority.
- Korea (PIPA): access, correction, deletion and suspension of processing; you may also contact the Personal Information Protection Commission or the KISA privacy centre (call 118).
- Australia (Privacy Act 1988): access and correction under APPs 12 and 13. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
To use any of these rights, write to the privacy contact above. We'll answer within 30 days (within 10 days for Korean requests, as PIPA requires).
9. Security and changes
We keep as little as we can, only send form data over an encrypted connection, and limit who can read it. If this notice changes, we'll update the date at the top, and tell the early-access list about important changes.
